Finding a parking space is a global problem. In cities all over the world, it has become common to drive to the desired location and then not know where to leave the car. One of the methods used to partially solve this problem is to lease the use of certain parking spaces or to allocate parking spaces to special users (users with special needs). In this way, tenants/users can be sure that there will be a free parking space waiting for them. Tenants/users still face problems when using these parking spaces, as unscrupulous drivers leave their cars in parking spaces already reserved by lease or in parking spaces reserved for special groups of users. In addition, when parking spaces are rented, there are often situations where the spaces remain empty because the tenants do not need to use them for some reason. Our sensor system – SmartRes (smart reservations) – solves these problems using artificial intelligence (AI) methods.

The problem of unauthorised use of a reserved parking space is solved by using the smart sensor system SmartRes, which consists of the following elements: a sensor for detecting the car in the parking space, which is placed in/on the surface of the parking space, a tag, which is kept in the car and tied to the reserved parking space, and a control centre, which monitors the status of occupancy of the parking space and the connection of tags and sensors.

In the case of reserved parking spaces, the SmartRes system informs the tenant in real time if there is an unauthorised car in the parking space. The tenant decides whether to call the parking service, which will resolve the problem (by towing the car or issuing a fine), or not to call if he knows it is a car he has agreed to use for a certain period of time. This period can be defined by the renter through the SmartRes system.
