Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, Jelena Begovic, announced today that Serbia will assume a pivotal leadership role within the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). Over the next three years, Serbia will serve as the first and third assistant chairman in the initial and final years respectively, and as the principal chairman in the middle year.

Minister Begovic highlighted the significance of this appointment, stating, “This is a prestigious honor for Serbia, showcasing our commitment to new technologies on a global stage. Our country has recognized the critical importance of investing in the field of artificial intelligence, allowing our experts to stand alongside the foremost global authorities in AI.”

She added that the next three years will provide a valuable opportunity for Serbia to enhance its international stature in AI and to foster collaborations with leading global entities in this arena.

“This role is tremendously important for Serbia as it enhances our influence in shaping global AI development trends,” reiterated Minister Begovic.

Established in 2020 by French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, GPAI seeks to create universal standards and regulations for AI development and to propel the advancement of this technology worldwide. The initiative operates under the auspices of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), with expert centers located in Montreal and Paris, and an additional center set to open in Japan.
